How Identity Became a Discipline of Its Own
Traditionally, identity and access management (IAM) focused on the policies, processes, and technologies used to control who has access to systems and resources. As cloud adoption, digital transformation, identity theft, fraud, and artificial intelligence reshaped the risk landscape, identity governance and administration (IGA) emerged as a critical discipline: bringing greater accountability, oversight, compliance, and auditability to how access is managed.
The Identity Governance Institute was established to advance both IAM and IGA as interconnected disciplines. We bring professionals together to strengthen expertise, elevate risk awareness, and improve how organizations govern and protect digital identities across their workforce, customers, partners, and broader ecosystems.
